Cosmic Eve has released the nine-track album “Poppy Field of Dreams”. The San Antonio, Texas one-woman doom project put out the full-length record on 31 October 2026, turning L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” into a gothic story of poppy fields, false wizards, witches and luminous green ruin. The record combines doom, psychedelic metal and sludge, and was written, performed and produced by Cosmic Eve herself.
A darker road to Oz
“Poppy Field of Dreams” follows a descent through what the project calls a gothic Land of Death, where home is both the first place lost and the final place found. The opening track, “Home Sweet Home”, uses vintage vinyl crackle and a haunted music box before the storm arrives. “Take Me There” becomes a doom lullaby about wanting to escape the known, while “Good Witch, Bad Bitch” explores sweetness, glamour, wrath and power.
The middle of the album moves through a cursed apple orchard in “Hang in the Trees”, then opens into psychedelic territory with “Dark Side of the Rainbow” and its amanita visions. The title track draws the listener into a narcotic haze. On “Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead”, the witch’s power dissolves when water falls, while “Wizard Behind the Veil” confronts the spectacle of the great wizard and finds a shadow made from the protagonist’s own power.
The album closes with “Emerald City”, a passage through the unknown that leads to the realisation that what the narrator sought was already within her. The full tracklist is “Home Sweet Home”, “Take Me There”, “Good Witch, Bad Bitch”, “Hang in the Trees”, “Dark Side of the Rainbow”, “Poppy Field of Dreams”, “Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead”, “Wizard Behind the Veil” and “Emerald City”.
From “GODZILLA” to Oz
The album follows Cosmic Eve’s release of “GODZILLA” on 15 October. As we reported when she released the doom single, that track presented a creature rising from the ocean beneath a violet storm and a dying sun, with fuzzed-out riffs, heavy drums and haunting vocals. Its psychedelic doom imagery now sits alongside the album’s broader story of grief, illusion and transformation.
Cosmic Eve describes “Poppy Field of Dreams” as a slow, crushing sludge doom fairytale for listeners who have travelled through darkness and experienced many deaths before finding their own light. The album artwork, music and production all come from the project, with the release marked as all rights reserved.
Cosmic Eve writes everything
Cosmic Eve has been the project’s sole member since its formation in San Antonio in 2013. She writes the music, plays the instruments, sings, produces the recordings and creates the artwork. She is also known for Crypt Lord, while her earlier releases include the 2015 EP “The Ice Mistress”, the 2017 full-length “Trance Sylvania”, the 2023 single “Through the Portal” and the 2026 EP “Cosmic Eve”.
