EMITY TRAP have released their eight-track progressive metal concept album “The Severance”. The record follows a man consumed by dark forces he willingly unleashed within himself and his conscience, presented as a female character, making one last attempt to reach him.
The album combines heavy guitars, growls and intense progressive passages with atmospheric piano, cello, powerful clean vocals and quieter emotional sections. Its track list is “Tonight”, “Infiltration”, “Everything”, “Perception / Replaced”, “Rope Dance”, “Too Late”, “Split the Soul” and “The Severance”.
Maria Kosma shapes the record
Maria Kosma plays bass and piano, adds some clean guitars and VSTs, arranges the music and wrote the lyrics. Andrés Arcentales and Carolina Padron provide vocals, while Leigh Pooley plays guitar and Paolo Conte plays drums. Charlot Adonay Rivero Robles adds cello. Tom MacLean of Twelve Tone Studio mixed and mastered the album, and Rex Zygadlo created the artwork.
The band stated that no artificial intelligence was used at any point during the making of the album.
Georgia Kalatha on vocals
Georgia Kalatha is a vocalist in Emity Trap. She is part of the band’s current recorded line-up, which places a female voice within its concept about inner conflict and conscience. Maria Kosma also brings piano and clean-guitar parts to the album alongside her bass playing and arrangements.
From Exeter to “The Severance”
EMITY TRAP formed in Exeter, Devon, in 2018. The band previously released the EP “Piano Flavours”, the singles “The Journey”, “Rage” and “Defeat”, and the full-length album “Night”. “The Severance” continues their progressive metal work through a single story about darkness, conflict and a final chance for redemption.
