Numento are among four new acts confirmed for Kaaos Festival 2027, which takes place in Vaasa, Finland on 30 and 31 July 2027. The Finnish progressive melodic death metal band joins Swedish heavyweights Soilwork and Smash Into Pieces, plus the solo project of Finntroll vocalist Mathias Lillmåns. Thirteen of the festival’s planned 20 acts have now been revealed.
Soilwork and Smash Into Pieces head to Vaasa
Soilwork, led by vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid, have been a fixture of melodic death metal for over three decades, with albums including “Stabbing the Drama”, “The Living Infinite” and “Övergivenheten”. Smash Into Pieces mix modern rock and metal with electronic elements, known for tracks such as “Six Feet Under” and “Heroes Are Calling” and for visually striking live shows featuring their masked drummer APOC.
Mathias “Vreth” Lillmåns, known for Finntroll and …And Oceans, brings his solo project Lillmåns to the festival for a rare live appearance. The project combines black and doom metal with industrial electronics and 1990s breakbeat influences. His recent single “Inherit the Morning Sun” previews a debut solo album planned for early 2027.
Katri Hiovain plays kantele and sings
Katri Hiovain has been Numento’s vocalist and kantele player since 2011. The Finnish kantele, a traditional plucked string instrument, gives the band part of its distinctive sound alongside heavy guitar work and varied vocals. Hiovain also plays in the projects Keoma and Varjomieli. Her dual role as singer and instrumentalist places her at the centre of Numento’s live set.
Folie à Deux and a Wacken Metal Battle run
Numento formed in Helsinki in 2004 and have released a string of singles in recent years, including “The Solipsist” and “Timetrap” in 2024, “Wrath” in 2025, and “Folie à deux”, “One with the Void” and “The Extortionist” in 2026. Their recent single “Folie à deux” draws on twisted romance and true-crime themes. The band has also attracted international attention through live appearances and their success at Wacken Metal Battle.
