Australian metal band DISTORTA released their new single and video, “Into the Light”, on 27 October 2026. It is the first release from the Ballarat line-up with Cherie Briody and Dmitry Keremetskiy sharing vocals, and the band describe it as their first move into metal ballad territory.
The song sets Briody’s clean singing against Keremetskiy’s heavier, more aggressive register, while the guitars and rhythm section keep the weight the band is known for. Lyrically it deals with staying with a loved one through a serious illness or the final stages of their life, and with how hard it is to accept a possible loss. DISTORTA call it their most emotional release so far.
Two voices, one song
The video was filmed at The Painted Lady Hotel in Ballarat, with outdoor scenes shot at a separate location. It was directed by Gareth Harrison, who also worked with the band on the video for their first release, “Devil in the Dust”. The clip mixes the outdoor footage with interior scenes in which an audience watches the band perform.
Guitarist James Bogers says the addition of the two voices has widened what the band can write.

A headline slot in Mildura
As part of this new stage, the band also announced a headline show in Mildura over Halloween. No further details of the concert have been given yet.
The current line-up is completed by Bogers on guitar, Dave Prodanovic on bass and Hanrahan on drums.
From “A Devil in the Dust” to dual vocals
DISTORTA formed in 2015. Their first EP, “A Devil in the Dust”, came out in 2023, followed by “Deadman” in 2024, both released through Wormhole Death Records. “Into the Light” is the first taste of a new direction for the band, built around the pairing of Briody and Keremetskiy at the front of the stage.
The single is available on Spotify and Apple Music.
