Myrkur has released “Broken Little Doll”, a digital single on Relapse Records that features Kalandra on vocals. The track is streaming now, together with a video that Amalie Bruun shot and edited herself.
Two Voices, One Church
The song is a duet: all vocals are by Bruun and Katrine Stenbekk of Kalandra, and Bruun wrote the music and lyrics and played every instrument on the recording. Fieke Van den Hurk mixed and mastered it. The video was filmed with a special thank you to Gentofte Church, and features the ballerinas Iris Johansson and Sarah Kirstein Junge.
Amalie Bruun, From Ex Cops to Myrkur
Amalie Bruun, born 6 January 1985, is the Danish singer and multi-instrumentalist behind Myrkur. She plays vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, piano, organ, violin, nyckelharpa and percussion on the project’s records, and writes the material herself. Before Myrkur she was the lead singer of the indie pop band Ex Cops, active from 2011 to 2014, and she has also released a solo album and three EPs under her own name.
Myrkur began in 2014, when Bruun formed the project in Copenhagen and signed to Relapse Records. The self-titled EP arrived that September, followed by the debut album “M” in 2015, the live album “Mausoleum” in 2016, “Mareridt” in 2017, “Folkesange” in 2020 and “Spine” on 20 October 2023. “Mareridt” won Album of the Year at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods in 2018. Live, Bruun is joined by drummer Jaime Díaz Otero Núñez, bassist and backing vocalist Maja Shining and guitarist Mikkel Haastrup.
