Upon Shadows has premiered the single “The Great Shadow”, released on 18 October 2026 through the band’s official YouTube channel. The track is described in the announcement as the first glimpse of “Golden Flame”, the group’s upcoming studio album, which is scheduled for release on 18 October 2027. The announcement also carries the full lyrics, which are given in English and in Spanish.
First song from “Golden Flame”
The single marks the start of the “Golden Flame” cycle more than a year ahead of the album itself. Upon Shadows has not announced a label for the record in this announcement, and no track list or further single dates have been given. The song itself is credited to the band as a whole, with all music and lyrics by Upon Shadows.
Picardo recorded, mixed and filmed it
Tamara Picardo did much of the technical work behind the release. She recorded and mixed the track and made the video, in addition to her playing credits of keyboards, guitars and vocals and her work on drums editing and lyrics. The mastering was handled by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden.
Two women since 2002
Both musicians in Upon Shadows are women and both have been in the band since it formed in 2002. Tamara Picardo sings, plays guitar and keyboards, and is credited here with the lyrics, the recording, the mix and the video. Her other projects include Eclampsy, Ad Noctem Project and Markhor. Natalia Arocena plays bass and has worked with Asgard, Eclampsy, Euphocordia, Sighmä and Thy Dominion.
From Oulu and Uruguay
Upon Shadows was formed in 2002 and is linked to Oulu, Finland and to Uruguay. The band has been releasing music since 2003, with 21 releases to its name in the band’s catalogue, most recently the album “Poetica” in 2023, preceded by the full-length “Modern Obscurantism” in 2019 and the singles “Light and Shadows” (2022), “Virtus Dormitiva” (2021) and “Encuentro” (2020). The group has previously worked with Goetic Records. “The Great Shadow” is available on the band’s Bandcamp alongside the video.
