GIFT have shared “Every Step”, the second single and video from their forthcoming album “Frenzy For The Thrill”. The album will be released digitally by Captured Tracks on 15 January 2027, with the new track following lead single and video “Hand To The Flame”.

GIFT is led by TJ Freda, with Jessica Gurewitz on synths, vocals and guitar, Kallan Campbell on bass, Justin Hrabovsky on synths and guitar, and Gabe Camarano on drums. The “Every Step” video was directed by TJ Freda and Crista Simiriglia, who also produced it. Yazz Jansen shot the video, while Zack Romeo and TJ Freda edited it.

Jessica Gurewitz adds three roles

Jessica Gurewitz is the band’s synth player, vocalist and guitarist. She is part of the five-musician line-up that shaped “Frenzy For The Thrill” as a more collaborative, band-oriented record than GIFT’s earlier work. The sources do not give her birth year or previous projects.

A song about perspective

“Every Step” presents a mind moving out of a haze, with flashes of clarity set against the album’s more feverish passages. Freda said the song came from the tension between recognising that larger problems matter more and still feeling overwhelmed by smaller ones.

Everything comes down to perspective. There’s so much happening in the world that matters more than the small things we let upset us. But when those small things feel just as big, guilt comes along with them, and it’s easy to feel disillusioned with yourself for not feeling the way you think you should. Perspective follows every step, whether you lean toward hope or toward heaviness. Beauty lives in the broken places, and something broken lives in every beautiful thing.

The new album grew from a change in Freda’s approach. After GIFT’s 2022 debut “Momentary Presence” and its 2024 follow-up “Illuminator” used krautrock, new wave, electronic music and shoegaze to address panic attacks and anxiety, Freda found that the old idea of countering anxiety with transcendence no longer worked. The new songs instead draw on 1990s alternative rock, grunge and more abrasive electronic music.

Eleven tracks arrive in January

GIFT made “Frenzy For The Thrill” with electronic producer Teddy Mars, the creator of Samples From Mars. Mars and Freda shared production duties, while the rest of the band took a larger role in the arrangements and songwriting after extensive touring had tightened their live sound.

The album opens with “See The Heavens” and continues through “Hand To The Flame”, “The Fly” and “Every Step”. Its remaining tracks are “Instant Rush”, “Come Back Down”, “Higher Than The Knife”, “I Wanna Be A Toy”, “I Wish I Met You In Another Life”, “Into Oblivion” and “Demon Inside”.

Freda described the record as an attempt to accept that life does not always provide clear answers:

We’re always looking for resolutions, but life isn’t like that. Frenzy For The Thrill is about still being in love with the chase knowing we might not find answers on the other side. This is the sound of us crashing headlong into the unknown.
