UNHOLY ALTAR have signed with BLKIIBLK, bringing the Philadelphia black metal five-piece into an agreement that the band says will lead to its darkest release so far. The current line-up features vocalist Desecrator, guitarists Miserer and Eagle Devouring Snake, bassist Cadaver and drummer Lucifer’s Rage.
The announcement follows the band’s 2024 album “Veil of Death! Shroud of Nite” and 2025 EP “A Sullen Dark Sky”. The label also highlighted “Black Winds Of Nocturnal Dismay”, a song from the album whose official music video was directed, edited and filmed by Elizabeth D’Ambrosio. Sage Sovereign appears as a fire-breather.
We are pleased to announce that Unholy Altar have joined forces with BLKIIBLK. This deal will also bring our darkest release yet. The gates have opened!
- Unholy Altar
Desecrator leads the vocals
Desecrator is Unholy Altar’s vocalist and has been part of the band since its formation in Philadelphia in 2021. She is the only woman identified in the supplied current line-up information. Her vocal work sits within the band’s move from early second-wave black metal influences towards longer, darker arrangements shaped by rhythm and atmosphere.
A darker direction
The band’s earliest recordings drew on the cold traditions of second-wave black metal, while later releases developed a more individual sound and visual identity. The 2024 album “Veil of Death! Shroud of Nite” was followed by “A Sullen Dark Sky” in 2025, as well as the single “Purgatory”. The signing places that recent progression at the centre of BLKIIBLK’s plans, although no release date for the promised new material was given.
Mike Gitter, BLKIIBLK’s label head and global A&R director for Frontiers Label Group, said the band had built its reputation through underground work while developing its own atmosphere and aesthetic.
Unholy Altar have quickly become one of the most exciting bands in modern black metal. They have worked hard in the underground scene while combining their metal roots with a completely distinctive atmosphere and aesthetic. There is something genuinely dangerous about this band. They are effective, unsettling and, in the best possible sense, truly disconcerting. That is exactly what great black metal is!
