Mortez, an alt-rock and alt-metal duo formed in Los Angeles and now based in Reno, have self-released two new songs, “CHAINZ” and “Reaper”. Both tracks are out now on Spotify and Bandcamp, each with its own video on YouTube: “CHAINZ” (3:16) has a lyric video, while “Reaper” (3:21) has an official music video.
The band wrote to Goddess Metal to flag the two songs. “CHAINZ” was composed by Brett Daniels, with Rachele Royale on vocals and Daniels on guitar.
Morticia plus Gomez
The duo’s name comes from Morticia and Gomez Addams, and their sound follows that lead: cinematic, symphonic and gothic alt-metal with Royale’s voice at the front. Daniels handles guitar and piano and writes the music, while Royale sings and writes the lyrics.
Royale’s solo past
Royale is an ASCAP songwriter with a career outside the band. Her solo work includes an album produced by Mutt Lange and placements on MTV, CMT, Hulu and SiriusXM. Daniels worked as a Hollywood session player before Mortez.
Both songs are self-released with no label involved, and the band is managed by Broken Heart Management. Mortez’s website and Bandcamp carry the tracks alongside their Spotify and YouTube channels. The two songs arrive in the same month as the Bern doom trio E-L-R’s “Oaken Reaper”, which we covered in our earlier report ahead of their album “Atropa”.
