Steel Cage have released “The Void”, a new single by the Italian melodic death metal band, together with an official music video. The song is out digitally now on all usual platforms, including Spotify, and carries the band’s own description: a story about the strength we find within, when the void feels bigger than everything, and about those who help us find it again.
Kintsugi on the Cover
The cover artwork takes its idea from kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold. As the band puts it, what breaks is not hidden, it is repaired and becomes part of the story. Gianluca Rungetti came up with the concept, and the artwork itself is AI-assisted, created with Claude by Anthropic.
Who Played and Recorded What
The music was written by Gennaro Eneghes, Gianluca Rungetti and Giuseppe Rungetti, while the lyrics come from vocalist Silvia Nardoni, who also acted as executive producer on the release. Gianluca Rungetti handled the recording, and Alessio Giacomi mixed and mastered the track at Progressiverse Studio. The video was directed and created by Kinorama Studio.
The lyrics follow a daily fight against an encroaching emptiness, moving from “Morning - No light” through drowning and collapse to rising again, with the refrain “The void lives, I’ll kill it, I’m fighting it with all my strength”.
Silvia Nardoni on Vocals
Silvia Nardoni has been Steel Cage’s vocalist since 2021. Outside the band she has sung in a range of projects, including the Iron Maiden tribute Flight of Icarus, the Judas Priest tribute Painkillers, Icons, MazeBrain and Phenomena. On “The Void” she wrote the lyrics and oversaw the production as executive producer.
Thirty Years from Naples
Steel Cage formed in Naples in the mid-1990s and have been playing melodic death metal since 1996. The current line-up pairs Nardoni with Marco Campassi on bass, Genny “Machine” Eneghes on drums and the Rungetti guitar duo of Gianluca “Rage” and Giuseppe “Shadowreaper”, all of whom have been in the band since 1996 apart from Campassi, who returned in 2019. Their most recent full-length album is “Syndrome” from 2022, which followed the single “Into the Abyss” in 2024, and the band has released music through Sliptrick Records.
“The Void” is released under the band’s own name, with the copyright for 2026 held by Steel Cage.
