Paara are streaming their third album in full, a week before it comes out. “Laulut tulen ja jään” arrives on 30 October 2026 through Dusktone, the Finnish atmospheric black metal band’s first full-length since “Riitti” in 2018. The full album premiere is hosted by Black Metal Promotion.
Nine Tracks on CD, Six on Vinyl
The physical editions carry different tracklists. The jewel-case CD, which comes with a booklet, holds nine tracks: “Tuli”, “Kirveenkantaja”, “Vuorten varjoista”, “Kylmään kylään”, “Kutsuu”, “M.A.N.A.”, “Lapsi päivännäkemätön”, “Pimeyteen”, “Pohjolan” and “Jää”. The black vinyl, which includes an insert, holds six: “Tuli”, “Kirveenkantaja”, “Kylmään kylään”, “Kutsuu”, “M.A.N.A.”, “Lapsi päivännäkemätön” and “Pohjolan”. A digital edition is also available. Pre-orders run through Dusktone’s Bandcamp page.
Finnish Myths, Clean Vocals and Ten-Minute Pieces
The band return after several quieter years and keep drawing on Finnish myths, folklore and supernatural beings, with the lyrics sung entirely in Finnish. Dusktone describes the sound as black metal aggression set against melancholic folk melodies and passages of calm. The label also points to clean vocals, choral arrangements and acoustic guitars, and to compositions that move between shorter atmospheric pieces and extended tracks running past ten minutes.
Hahtezan Shares the Vocals
Hahtezan sings in Paara and has been a member since 2017. She is one of three vocalists on “Laulut tulen ja jään”, alongside Helmouth and Zvartus, and her voice sits inside the Finnish-language material the band built around folklore and the supernatural. The album is her third full-length with the group, after “Riitti” and the 2026 singles “Kylmään kylään” and “Pohjolan”.
Zvartus and Helmouth Produce
Zvartus and Helmouth produced the record. Paara composed the music, with Iiro “Leper” Illman co-writing “Kirveenkantaja”, and Helmouth wrote the lyrics. Saku Moilanen tracked the drums at Deep Noise Studios. Zvartus, Paara and Ville O. recorded the remaining instruments and vocals at Chef’s Room Studio in Helsinki, and Jussi Kraft recorded the acoustic guitars for “Kutsuu M.A.N.A.”. Mixing was shared between Zvartus and Moilanen, who handled drums, rhythm guitars and bass as well as mastering. David Thiérrée made the cover artwork, with further credits to Toni Hietomaa for the logo, Jussi Kandelin for the crest, Teppo Ristola for photography and J. Pihlajaniemi for layout.
From Helsinki, Since 2011
Paara formed in Helsinki in 2011 and released their debut single “Paara” in 2012. “Yön olevainen puoli” followed in 2015 and “Riitti” in 2018, both on Dusktone. The current line-up is Zvartus on guitars, vocals, keyboards and programming, Helmouth on vocals and soundscapes, Hahtezan on vocals, Trangoth on bass and Waara on drums and percussion.
