Italian metal icons LACUNA COIL have released a new double single, “Fragile XX / I Wish You Were Dead (SWARM Remix)”, available now via Century Media Records. The release serves as a commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of their album “Karmacode”. Alongside the new version of the track “Fragile”, the band included a remix of “I Wish You Were Dead”, a song originally featured on their 2025 studio album “Sleepless Empire”.

Two Decades of Fragility

Regarding the decision to revisit one of their most enduring tracks, vocalist Andrea Ferro noted the significance of the song in the band’s history.

Fragile has always been very well received live and was also one of the very first songs we performed on stage, even before Karmacode was released 20 years ago. Its message - which is to embrace life’s difficulties without ever giving up, even though that fragile balance is often put to the test - is still very relevant to us. Although revisiting such a much-loved track might seem a bit risky at first, it was actually a way of paying tribute to Fragile and also to Karmacode, and we’re absolutely delighted with the result. Fragile XX sounds like Lacuna Coil in 2026, and we can’t wait to play it live for the next 20 years!

SWARM, who handled the remix duties for “I Wish You Were Dead”, expressed his long-standing connection to the band’s discography.

I’m a long-time fan of Lacuna Coil, and when I was asked to remix one of their tracks, I felt deeply honoured. I remember listening to Karmacode back in the 2000s and thinking the melodies were incredibly interesting and exotic. The whole album helped shape what would eventually become my musical tastes, and I’ve remained a loyal fan of the band ever since. I’m always very cautious about agreeing to remix tracks, especially if they’re by artists I love. I never remix anything just for the sake of it. I always want it to be worthwhile; I’m keen to respect the original but also to shake it up aggressively and bring out something mad. I’m very proud to have had the chance to do this with I Wish You Were Dead.

Cristina Scabbia’s Vocal Legacy

Cristina Scabbia has been a defining presence in LACUNA COIL since joining the group in the mid-1990s. Born in 1972, she shares lead vocal duties with Andrea Ferro and has become one of the most recognisable voices in gothic and alternative metal. Beyond her work with the band, she has contributed to projects such as Ayreon and collaborated with artists including Apocalyptica and Megadeth. Her influence extends to her past work as an advice columnist and her consistent role in maintaining the band’s international profile.

Following a performance at the Hero Rock Festival in Seoul on 19 December 2026, LACUNA COIL will embark on a European tour supporting The Halo Effect starting 18 February 2027 in Malmö, Sweden.
