Cristina Scabbia, Twenty-Eight Years of Dual Vocals
Cristina Scabbia has sung in Lacuna Coil since the band’s early days, when she was asked to record backing vocals and stayed on as a full member. Born on 6 June 1972, she shares lead vocals with Andrea Ferro, a pairing that has shaped the Milan band’s sound since the late 1990s. She has appeared on records by other artists, including Megadeth’s “À Tout le Monde (Set Me Free)”, Apocalyptica’s “S.O.S. (Anything But Love)” and Ayreon’s The Theory of Everything, where she plays the Mother. She also wrote an advice column for the rock magazine Revolver alongside Vinnie Paul.
From Sleep of Right to Sleepless Empire
Lacuna Coil formed in Milan in 1994 under the name Sleep of Right, with bassist and composer Marco Coti Zelati and vocalist Andrea Ferro at the centre. They recorded as Ethereal before signing to Century Media and releasing a self-titled EP in 1998. Ten studio albums have followed, among them Dark Adrenaline in 2012, which reached number 15 on the Billboard 200, Black Anima in 2019 and Sleepless Empire in 2025. The band won Best Album at the 2012 Metal Female Voices Fest and Best International Band at the 2016 Metal Hammer Awards in Germany.
Richard Meiz currently plays drums, with a permanent drummer still to be named.
