Crypta have released a new single, “A Portrait of Decay”. The Brazilian death metal band announced the track, which is their first release in the current line-up with guitarist Victoria Villarreal.

Villarreal joined Crypta as a permanent member on lead guitar in April after touring with the band, filling the spot left by Sonia Anubis, who left in 2022 to focus on her own band, Cobra Spell. “A Portrait of Decay” is the first studio output from the São Paulo quartet since their second album, “Shades of Sorrow”, which came out on Napalm Records in August 2023.

Four women from São Paulo

Crypta was formed in São Paulo in 2019 and announced in May 2020 by vocalist and bassist Fernanda Lira and drummer Luana Dametto, who had both left the thrash metal band Nervosa a month earlier. Lira also plays in HellArise and Helgardh, while Dametto has played in Apophizys, Chaos Rising and Nephasto. Tainá Bergamaschi, previously of Hagbard, plays rhythm guitar. The band’s debut album, “Echoes of the Soul”, was released in 2021 and mixed by Arthur Rizk and mastered by Jens Bogren.

Downcast Collision

“Hollow”

A song about grief after losing someone central to one's life, where the survivor numbs the pain with excess and self-destruction, unable to let go or imagine a way out.
