OMEGASHIFT have released “Dwell Suspended”, the second single from their forthcoming album “The Burden Of Storms”. The Norwegian heavy rock and doom band shared the track on 3 November, ahead of the album’s release on 20 November through Nordic Mission.
The song follows “While Men Slept”, which opened the album campaign. OMEGASHIFT describe the new track as part of their mix of melodic doom, metal and heavy rock, with weighty riffs, melancholy, unusual shifts and eccentric arrangements around vocalist Jorunn Aateigen’s distinctive delivery.
Five musicians, no click track
OMEGASHIFT recorded “The Burden Of Storms” without a click track, Auto-Tune or drum quantisation. The album uses real drums and preserves the interaction between its five musicians: Jorunn Aateigen on vocals, Anders Elle and Bjørnar Moum Jacobsen on guitars, Martin Rafoss on bass, and Yngve Moum Jacobsen on drums.
The band said the recording reflects their abilities rather than an artificially perfected version of them.
This is a mirrored image of what we can do, not what we can’t.

With heart, flaws and years of consuming music, The Burden Of Storms is the collective core of the five members, each member contributing their personal piece of the puzzle.

The eight-song release will include six main album tracks, followed by “Tread The Ashes” as a bonus track and “Lazarus Brigade (Live at Kick)” as a live recording. The sequence is:
- “While Men Slept”
- “Spheres Of Solace”
- “Dwell Suspended”
- “Nightfire”
- “Army Of Bones”
- “Council Of Clouds”
- “Tread The Ashes (Bonus Track)”
- “Lazarus Brigade (Live at Kick)”
Jorunn Aateigen leads the vocals
Jorunn Aateigen is OMEGASHIFT’s vocalist and the female member of the current five-piece line-up. Her voice is a defining part of the band’s melodic doom, metal and heavy rock sound, particularly as the arrangements move between melancholy and heavier passages. She appears at the centre of the band’s current single and forthcoming album campaign.
A follow-up to 2022
OMEGASHIFT, based in Kristiansand, Norway, previously released their debut mini-album in 2022. That 38-minute record was described by Veil Of Sound as “exquisitely performed Heavy Doom Metal”. “The Burden Of Storms” continues from that starting point while expanding the band’s use of unexpected turns and arrangements.
The group said they are not aiming for immediately straightforward songs, instead allowing the material to reveal itself over repeated listens.
There is nothing straightforward with Omegashift. We do turns and probably backwards flips sometimes, but the final product is 100% us, with a lot of heart, feelings, heaviness and a desire to leave something positive in the world.
- OMEGASHIFT
The album’s songs were described by the band as an organic collection that can grow with time.
The result has become an organic collection of songs, all of which will grow if you let them. You are more than welcome to join our sphere of solace.
