HEAVY TEMPLE released a digital cover of Type O Negative’s “Love You to Death” on 31 October 2026, with an official video built around High Priestess Nighthawk’s vocals, keyboards and cello. The Philadelphia psychedelic doom band recorded the song as a tribute to Type O Negative and the late Peter Steele, whose original appeared on “October Rust” in 1996. Magnetic Eye Records is listed as the single’s label.
A quieter take on Steele
Nighthawk arranged and recorded the new version herself. Instead of following the original’s heavy entrance, the opening stays restrained, allowing the melody and the sparse instrumentation to lead the performance. Stretch Armsbong made the accompanying video, which Heavy Temple shared alongside the release.
The band had already recorded “Love You to Death” in 2016, making this a second interpretation of the Type O Negative song more than a decade later. The new version arrived shortly after Heavy Temple’s live album, “Live From the Inner Sanctum”, which was released earlier in October.
High Priestess Nighthawk’s cello-led arrangement
High Priestess Nighthawk has played bass and sung with HEAVY TEMPLE since 2012. For this release, she performs the vocals, keys and cello, while also arranging and recording the track. Her other projects include Morgul Blade and her solo work under the name Nighthawk.
The band formed in Philadelphia in 2012 and later released the studio album “Garden of Heathens” in 2024. The latest single follows the live album “Live From the Inner Sanctum” and is available digitally through the band’s online channels.
