Mägo de Oz have publicly rebuked their own singer, Rafa Blas, and guitarist Ix Valieri for attending the world premiere of Fiesta Pagäna, a film about the band that the band itself has disowned and is fighting over in court. The two appeared at the Morelia International Film Festival in Mexico on 22 October 2026 alongside José Andrëa, the former singer at the centre of the band’s longest feud.
Why the film is a sore point
Fiesta Pagäna, directed by Álvaro Brechner, is a feature film inspired by the band’s story, not a documentary. Its title is taken from “Fiesta Pagana”, one of the best-known songs of Mägo de Oz. The band first approved the project, then cut all ties with it in June 2026, saying the production company had registered the name “Fiesta Pagana” without permission and announcing legal action. Drummer and founder Txus di Fellatio says he has filed a complaint over the use of the name, and that the dispute is now before the courts.
The film’s story centres largely on the conflict between Txus and José Andrëa. Andrëa was the band’s singer in its most popular years and left in 2011, which was followed by years of public disputes with the band. In the film, Adrián Lastra plays Txus and Adrià Mondaray plays Andrëa. It reaches Spanish cinemas on 6 November 2026.
Why two current members were there
Blas and Valieri, together with keyboardist Francesco Antonelli, wrote “Brinda con nosotros”, the film’s official song, through their side project ON, according to the production company Eterno Island Pictures. That put them among the people presenting the film in Mexico, next to Andrëa and the band’s former bassist Peri. Txus says he did not know the two were behind the song.
The band’s message
The day after the premiere, the official accounts of Mägo de Oz posted a photo of Blas, Valieri and Andrëa together, with a definition of loyalty and a pointed last line:
Loyalty is a virtue and a moral principle consisting of commitment, respect and faithfulness towards a person, group, community, institution or one’s own principles. Good luck to the two of you with “your” film.
- Mägo de Oz
The post was signed by the band, not by one member, and comments on it were switched off. Hours later the band shared an interview Txus gave to the newspaper ABC, with his words that the two had taken an “absurd stance” and that “you cannot bite the hand that feeds you”.
What Txus said
Txus said he was surprised that Blas and Valieri went to the premiere without first speaking to him, the band’s manager or the other members. Asked whether they are out of the band, he said no. Around sixteen families depend on Mägo de Oz, about sixty concerts of the tour are still ahead, and he says he does not have the strength to look for a new singer now. He added that when the tour ends he will probably have to “remove the cancer”, and said that the cancer is not Rafa Blas.
Two camps
Guitarist Víctor de Andrés has spoken out against the film and in support of the band, and José Andrëa has answered on X. Blas and Valieri have both told Txus they want to stay, and both will play the band’s tour of Mexico and Latin America, which starts on 7 November, the day after the film opens in Spain. No departure has been announced. Backing vocalist Raquel Eugenio, who joined in 2025, is not part of the dispute.
