Therion will celebrate 40 years as a band with a special concert at Rockstadt Fest 2027, the organisers have announced. The festival runs from 26 to 30 July 2027 in Ghimbav, near Brasov, Romania, and the anniversary set is billed as part of a limited number of major European festival appearances.
Songs from Theli to Leviathan
The anniversary programme will include representative tracks from across the band’s discography, with an emphasis on albums such as “Theli”, “Vovin”, “Secret of the Runes”, “Lemuria”, “Sirius B” and the “Leviathan” trilogy, which appeared between 2021 and 2023. The band released the live album “Con Orquesta”, recorded with the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Mexico, on 30 January 2026.
Lori Lewis on vocals
The line-up features two female voices. Lori Lewis handles vocals and is also known from the band Aesma Daeva and her own project, Lori Lewis. She shares vocal duties with Rosalía Sairem, who performs with the band as a touring member. They sing alongside founder Christofer Johnsson on guitars, keyboards and orchestral arrangements, Thomas Vikstrom on vocals, Christian Vidal on guitar, Nalle Pahlsson on bass and Sami Karppinen on drums.
From death metal to symphonic metal
Therion formed in Upplands Vasby, Sweden, in 1987 under the name Blitzkrieg, starting out as a death metal band. The group took its current name from the Celtic Frost album “To Mega Therion” and gradually added choirs, classical musicians and full orchestras to its sound, becoming one of the reference names of symphonic metal. Its lyrics draw on mythology, occultism and ancient writings.
Six Feet Under and more names
Rockstadt Fest 2027 has also confirmed Six Feet Under, the death metal band formed in 1993 by former Cannibal Corpse vocalist Chris Barnes and ex-Obituary guitarist Allen West, known for its heavy, groove-driven style and the “Graveyard Classics” cover series, as well as Embrionic Autopsy. The organisers say two more names will be revealed this week. Tickets are available through the festival’s official website and IaBilet.ro.
