Mission in Black have lost their vocalist. Steffi Stuber announced on the evening of 15 October 2026 that she is leaving the German melodic metal band after more than eight years, and that she will pursue new musical paths.
The news was carried by powermetal.de, which published her statement. No statement from the rest of the band had appeared at the time of reporting.
“Ein Kapitel geht zu Ende”
In her statement, written in German, Stuber opened with the line “Ein Kapitel geht zu Ende” (“a chapter comes to an end”) and described the decision as anything but easy. She wrote:
“8 Jahre voller Musik, Konzerte, Reisen, Erlebnisse, Höhen und Tiefen liegen hinter uns - und dafür bin ich unglaublich dankbar.”
She thanked her bandmates and crew for what they built together, and told listeners that they were an important part of the eight years. Music, she stressed, remains a central part of her life and she will stay active in it, “nur eben auf eine andere Art und mit neuen Möglichkeiten” (in a different way, with new possibilities).
Eight years at the front
Stuber joined Mission in Black in 2018 and fronted the Heidenheim, Baden-Württemberg band through its two most recent albums. She sang on “Profit Reigns Supreme”, released in May 2023 via El Puerto Records and produced at Greenman Studios by Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann, whose work also includes Orden Ogan, Rhapsody Of Fire and Brainstorm. The videos for “What Does It Take To Be Alive” and the title track drew strong responses from the band’s audience.
Her departure comes a few months after the release of the band’s third album, “Divinity Of Lies”, which arrived on 24 April 2026, again mixed and mastered by Levermann.
Festival stages and a label night
Mission in Black formed in 2010, founded by drummer Andy Flache, guitarist Daniel Tschoepe, Martin Grimm and Hannes Jäger, and released their first demo, “Black Infect”, in 2011. Their early live shows included dates with Brainstorm and Mystic Prophecy, and their first full-length, “Anthem Of A Dying Breed”, followed in 2018 via El Puerto Records.
In the years with Stuber the band toured as special guests of Nightrage and, in 2025, of Rage on the A New World Rising Tour, and played festivals including Rage Against Racism, Mammut Festival, Area 53 in Austria with Amorphis, Castle Rock with Katatonia and Leaves’ Eyes, and Metalacker with The Halo Effect, Ensiferum and Emil Bulls. They also co-headlined the El Puerto Records Label Night on 30 November 2024 alongside David Reeve, marking the label’s tenth anniversary. Since 2024 the band have been ambassadors of the Captain Paul Watson Foundation Germany e.V.
The remaining line-up is Andy “Black” Flache on drums, Daniel Tschoepe and Eddie Stübner on guitars and Simon Schorp on bass.
