Angel, the solo project of Norwegian vocalist Helena Iren Michaelsen, have released an official video for their version of “Woman From Tokyo”, a cover of the Deep Purple classic. The news was announced on 15 October.
Part of “Purple Storm”
The track is included on the tribute compilation “Purple Storm - A Tribute To Deep Purple”, which Cleopatra Records will publish on 13 November. The label gathered a number of artists from the hard rock and metal scene, each giving their own take on songs from the British band’s catalogue. The release follows another Cleopatra Records tribute dedicated to Ritchie Blackmore’s work.
The voice of Angel
Angel is the solo project of Helena Iren Michaelsen, who handles vocals and songwriting. Born in 1977, she is the frontwoman of symphonic metal band Imperia and sang with gothic metal band Trail of Tears from 1997 to 2000. She was also briefly the singer of Sahara Dust, the Dutch band later renamed Epica, and has been involved with Black Horizon, Black Widow and The All. Her solo project released “A Woman’s Diary: Chapter I” in 2005, with “Chapter II” following in April 2020 and “The Hidden Chapter” in December 2020, both on Massacre Records. Oliver Philipps contributes orchestration and piano to the project.
The “Woman From Tokyo” video gives a first taste of Angel’s contribution to “Purple Storm - A Tribute To Deep Purple” ahead of the compilation’s release on 13 November.
