Melbourne gothic metal band Victoria K have released their new single “Incubus”, taken from their forthcoming third studio album “The Pleasure of Sorrow”. The single was announced on 13 October 2026 and follows the previously released tracks “Oh So Weary” and “Take It All” as the latest preview of the album.
According to the band’s announcement, “Incubus” deals with the difficulty of letting go of relationships that have lost their meaning, and the emotional conflict between holding on to familiar memories and accepting the need to move forward. The song was written during a challenging period in the life of frontwoman Victoria Knight and now reflects personal growth and acceptance.
Between introspection and intensity
Musically, the single moves between ethereal passages and atmospheric textures on one side and heavier, more energetic sections on the other, with a brief, impressionistic piano interlude adding to the track’s dreamlike quality. Rather than following a conventional structure, “Incubus” develops alongside the emotions behind its lyrics. The band cites influences ranging from Spiritbox to Evanescence and Lacuna Coil, and describes its current direction as a space between melody, intensity and electronic experimentation.
The forthcoming album “The Pleasure of Sorrow” expands on the gothic and progressive metal foundations of the band’s earlier work and incorporates elements of modern metalcore, hardcore and electronic music. The record was produced by Lee Bradshaw, with mixing and mastering by Lance Prenc. Victoria K released their previous album “Essentia” in 2020 on Rockshots Records.
Victoria Knight’s new chapter
The release comes at a significant time for the band. Victoria Knight recently appeared on Season 15 of The Voice Australia, bringing her vocal style to a wider national audience. She fronts Victoria K on vocals, alongside Charlie Curnow on extreme vocals, James Davies on drums and Ethan Collusi on bass.
October on stage with Paradise Lost
Victoria K also have a busy October of live shows in Australia. The band opened for Swedish progressive metal act Katatonia at Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on 10 October, and will now join British gothic metal pioneers Paradise Lost as special guests for three dates:
- 18 October: The Triffid, Brisbane, QLD
- 19 October: Factory Theatre, Sydney, NSW
- 20 October: Max Watt’s, Melbourne, VIC
“Incubus” is available for listening via the band’s official channels.
