Underdark have released their new single “Death of a Toolmaker” via Church Road Records. The track is the first taste of the Nottingham band’s forthcoming album “O Come Forth Annihilation”, which is scheduled for release on 6 November 2026.
The album is available for pre-order from the band’s Bandcamp page in several formats: a toxic yellow vinyl LP for £22.99, a digipak CD for £11.99, and a digital version. Pre-orders of the physical editions include immediate access to two tracks, with the full album delivered on release day. The single itself can be bought as a digital track for £1.50.
A song about power and rhetoric
Vocalist Abi Vasquez described the intent behind the new song in a statement announcing the release:
Our aim with Death Of A Toolmaker was to construct the heaviest, most relentless, and unforgiving track we’ve written to date. Lyrically, I wrote about the rhetorical tactics politicians use in order to gain access to power under the guise of being a “man of the people”, only to immediately enact repugnantly cruel domestic and foreign policy at the whims of the billionaire class.
- Abi Vasquez, vocals
The band’s sound blends black metal with post-rock and post-hardcore, combining atmospheric textures and ethereal melodies with intense, emotive vocals. They cite Deafheaven, Oathbreaker and Alcest as reference points for listeners.
Abi Vasquez, voice of Underdark
Abi Vasquez has been Underdark’s vocalist since 2019, when she joined shortly after the recording of the band’s debut album. She was previously the vocalist of Yuri, and first met most of Underdark’s members while working as a booking agent in Leicester. Her addition to the line-up was announced in September 2019, hours before her first performance with the band, and she went on to re-record the debut album’s vocal tracks with her own lyrics.
From Nottingham to the road
Underdark were formed in Nottingham in 2015 by guitarists Ollie Jones and Adam Kinson with drummer Dan Hallam. Their debut EP “Mourning Cloak” followed in 2016, and the debut album “Our Bodies Burned Bright on Re-Entry” arrived in 2021. Their second album, “Managed Decline”, was released through Church Road Records on 24 November 2023. The current line-up also includes bassist Neil Sutherland and drummer Dan Blackmore.
The band will support the new album with three UK shows in November: The Fighting Cocks in Kingston Upon Thames on 20 November, The Flapper in Birmingham on 21 November, and The Junction in Plymouth on 22 November.
