Slaughter Sisters musicians Isa Nielsen and Lívia Lee have joined drummer Aquiles Priester for a video version of Sarcófago’s “Screeches from the Silence”. Nielsen plays guitar and sings on the recording, while Lee plays bass and Priester plays drums. The collaboration was announced on 29 October as part of Priester’s PsychOctopus: Pandemic Times project.
A Sarcófago tribute
The song originally appeared on Sarcófago’s 1991 album “The Laws of Scourge”, which followed “I.N.R.I.” (1987) and “Rotting” (1989). The Belo Horizonte band formed in 1985 and became an influential name in Brazilian extreme metal, with an approach that affected the development of black metal, death metal and other extreme styles.
“The Laws of Scourge” represented a change in Sarcófago’s sound, with more elaborate arrangements, tighter instrumental work and elements associated with death and thrash metal. The new video revisits that period through a line-up combining Priester’s drumming with the two current Slaughter Sisters musicians.
Nielsen and Lee in the trio
Isa Nielsen is the guitarist and vocalist of Slaughter Sisters, while Lívia Lee plays bass in the death metal band. Priester is known for his work with Angra, Hangar and W.A.S.P.
The recording, mixing and mastering were completed by Paulo Roberto Albino. Priester created PsychOctopus: Pandemic Times to bring together musicians and approaches beyond the styles most associated with his career.
