GUHTS have released the new single “Holy Hell” together with an official video, the first music from the Brooklyn post-metal band’s second album, “Duality Reality”, which is due in 2027 on Silent Pendulum Records.

The single came out on 27 October 2026. The video is directed by and stars vocalist Amber Gardner, and was filmed and edited by guitarist Scott Prater through DAATH MEDIA. It is a homage to Andrzej Zulawski’s 1981 horror film Possession, recreating the harrowing train station scene with Gardner in the role originally played by Isabelle Adjani.

Screaming at rush hour in Beacon

Gardner explained where the idea came from and what happened on the day of the shoot.

We were inspired by the subway scene in Possession. The mind becoming fragmented, repeating patterns we haven’t recognized, and how I see that playing out across society. We filmed it during rush hour at the Beacon, New York, train station, with me screaming in the walkway with fake milk we had to clean up afterward. Almost nobody flinched and only one person checked on me, which became one of the most disturbing parts of making the video. People walking by or sitting there, waiting for the train, were so absorbed in their phones, they seemed disconnected from the reality happening right in front of them.

The track itself runs five and a half minutes and was engineered and recorded by Andrew Schneider at Raw Recording and Spaceman Sound, with mastering by Alan Douches at West West Side Studios. On the recording, “Holy Hell” was performed by Gardner on vocals, Prater on guitar and Daniel Martinez on bass, with Gregory March playing drums.

Nine songs, one contradiction

“Duality Reality” is the follow-up to the band’s 2024 debut “Regeneration”, and it was written around the same idea the title states. Gardner describes it as an album about the contradiction of being human, and the tension between heaviness and vulnerability runs through all nine songs.

The album title, Duality Reality, is about the contradiction of being human. We’re interested in what happens when you actually move through an emotion or feeling. What if darkness isn’t something we have to pretend isn’t there, in order to find light? What if rage can coexist with love? What if grief and gratitude can occupy the same body? What if destruction can become the beginning of creation? That tension runs through these songs, heaviness and vulnerability, screaming and melody, chaos and intention, darkness and hope. Because duality is the human experience.

The album was engineered and mixed by Andrew Schneider, whose credits include Cave In and KEN mode, and mastered by Alan Douches, who has worked with Mastodon and Chelsea Wolfe. The tracklist runs: “Holy Hell”, “Currents”, “April 16th”, “Duality Reality”, “Blood”, “Infection Point”, “Rising Falling”, “You Will” and “Be Well”.

GUHTS play Lucky 13 Saloon in Brooklyn on 4 December 2026.

From Witchkiss to a year of failed takes

Gardner and Prater are married as well as musical partners. They first made music together in the band Witchkiss, and began experimenting in new ways in 2020, laying the foundation for what became GUHTS. The pair spent almost a year working on microphones, vocal layers, singing and screaming before the band’s first release, the 2021 EP “Blood Feather”, arrived, followed by the singles “Burn My Body” in 2022 and “White Noise” in 2023, the debut album “Regeneration” in 2024 and the demo “Inflection Point” in 2025.

We spent almost a year just messing around with different microphones, vocal layers, singing, screaming, failing and trying again. There weren’t any rules because we weren’t trying to create a particular kind of band. We were just curious about what was possible. Instead of trying to force it into something familiar, we got curious and followed it. And I think that’s still what GUHTS is. We’re still learning, experimenting and discovering what’s possible.

Gardner’s own description of the band’s sound is blunt about what a listener should expect from it.

It’s not background noise. It’s something you enter into. Something you feel in your body. GUHTS is an emotional soundscape, heavy as fuck, but with a big touch of hope running through it. I’m interested in all the nuances of being human: grief, rage, love, loss, beauty, tension, connection, transformation, darkness and light.

The band signed to Silent Pendulum Records in June 2026 for the next album. “Holy Hell” follows the same-week release of another single with hell in its title, when Forsaken Age put out “Holy War, Holy Hell” ahead of their album “Blackened Steel”.
