Defences have announced the premiere of the video for their new single “Death of a Dream”, which arrives today, 22 October 2026, through Long Branch Records. The track is available digitally, and the video premieres on the label’s YouTube channel.
The single was mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek at Sawdust Recordings. Additional production came from Calum Wilmot and Jon Cass, with vocal production by Meyrick de la Fuente. The video was shot at XYZ Studios by director of photography Tim Sheehy, with Zarco Smith editing and colouring, Evan Davis as first AC and Claire Newcombe as first AD. Aaron Carter and Antonio Savignano built the set, and Mark Kidsley took the unit stills. Wardrobe came from Killstar and Hysteria Machine.
Defences work in alternative metal with melodic metalcore and nu metal in the mix, and the label places them alongside Spiritbox, Future Palace, As Everything Unfolds, Skindred and Dream State. The lyrics of “Death of a Dream” circle around taking control: “I get to decide how I wanna show up”, the repeated line goes, and later, “Had to kill the dream, isn’t it so bittersweet?”
Defences are a British band signed to Long Branch Records, the label behind the release. “Death of a Dream” follows their earlier work on the roster, and the new single keeps the band in the heavier end of alternative metal while the vocal lines stay melodic.
