Dutch symphonic progressive metal newcomers Nymue have unveiled their official music video for “Born From Dark Waters”. The piece serves as the title track and fourth single from their ambitious 23-track debut double album, released on 9 October 2026. The group celebrated the release with an exclusive concert on 16 October at De Griene Walden in Dronten.
The video follows earlier single releases for “Crossroads”, “Phantoms of Betrayal”, and “The Execution”, completing a cycle of visually rich story chapters exploring mythological conflict and resilience.
Thirza Fekkes at the artistic helm
Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Thirza Fekkes stands as the creative driving force behind the band’s vision. Beyond delivering emotive clean vocals, Fekkes recorded the album’s flute and clarinet passages, wrote all lyrics and melodies, and took charge of the visual direction, serving as both director and video editor for the “Born From Dark Waters” clip.
Her vocal delivery bridges tender introspection and soaring theatrical intensity. In “Born From Dark Waters”, her narrative centers on an outcast figure branded as wicked and banished to dark tides, who refuses to break and rises from the abyss to reclaim her destiny.
Orchestral grandeur and progressive metal storytelling
The 23-track double album was produced and mixed in-house by guitarists Vincent van Zwieten and Bastiaan Westerbeek, with mastering completed by Erwin Maas at eMastering.
To bring their cinematic concept to life, Nymue enlisted extensive acoustic arrangements featuring Miguel Teuling on piano, Iván Torres and Galya Sky on cellos, Chris Nicolai and Mathilde Pereboom on French horns, Andreea Chirpac on bassoon, and Lisette Honhoff on oboe. Fellow Dutch artist Sascha van der Meer of SOLARCYCLES also makes a guest vocal appearance on “Phantoms of Betrayal”.
An ambitious debut from the Dutch scene
Formed in 2022, Nymue’s permanent line-up features Thirza Fekkes on vocals and woodwinds, guitarists Vincent van Zwieten and Bastiaan Westerbeek, bassist Reinier van Zwieten, and drummer Dominic Pongers.
By pairing heavy modern guitar riffs with acoustic orchestral instruments and deep fantasy storytelling, the group has delivered one of the most comprehensive debut efforts in recent Dutch progressive metal.
