Nervosa have cancelled all of their United Kingdom shows planned for November after guitarist and lead vocalist Prika Amaral announced that she must interrupt her live activity for at least two months because of serious health problems.
The band made the announcement public on 17 October. Amaral suffers from severe allergies that have worsened in recent months, including cold urticaria and reactions to various environmental factors, and her condition has come close to anaphylactic shock. Because of this, every show the Brazilian thrash and death metal band was scheduled to play in the UK in November has been called off.
Back to Brazil for treatment
Amaral will return to Brazil to follow an appropriate course of treatment and to have her medical condition investigated in depth. The break from the stage is expected to last at least two months.
Despite the situation, the band’s representatives stressed that the North American tour scheduled for February and March 2027 has not been cancelled and will go ahead as planned. Amaral expressed her gratitude to fans for their support and promised to return to the stage as soon as possible.
The founder still at the centre
Prika Amaral founded Nervosa in São Paulo in 2010 and is the only founding member still in the line-up. She taught herself guitar from the age of 14 and bought her first instrument with her first paycheck at 18, developing a fast, technical picking style rooted in thrash metal. She wrote the melodies for songs such as “Time of Death”, “Invisible Oppression”, “Uranio em Nós” and “Masked Betrayer”. Besides her work in Nervosa, she has been involved in projects such as Metal Against Coronavirus and Revolta, founded the label Sujo Records and the media outlet Music Media Metal, and promotes and organises cultural events in the Brazilian underground scene. In 2023 she also became the band’s lead vocalist, in what the band described as its strongest era.
She is joined in the current line-up by guitarist Helena Kotina, who has been in the band since 2021 and also works under her own name and with Daffodil, with Hel Pyre and Emmelie Herwegh sharing the bass and Michaela Naydenova on drums.
Nervosa have released five studio albums on Napalm Records, from Victim of Yourself in 2014 to Jailbreak in 2023.
