Japanese metalcore band Hanabie. have released a music video for their new single “Bari Bari Buddy”. The video arrived on 14 October 2026, about a week after the song itself was released. “Bari Bari Buddy” is the first single taken from the band’s upcoming album “Umami”, which is due out in December.
An anime finale
The track is the band’s second collaboration with an anime production. “Bari Bari Buddy” was written as the final song for the second season of the anime series “Reincarnated As A Sword”, which is broadcast on several Japanese TV channels and streamed via Animex Asia. The video is available on YouTube.
Yukina, Matsuri and Hettsu
Hanabie. is an all-female band from Tokyo, formed in 2015 in Kichijoji by four high school friends. Yukina sings lead vocals, Matsuri plays guitar and sings, Hettsu plays bass and provides backing vocals, and Chika sits behind the drum kit. The band describes its mix of metalcore, hardcore punk and nu metal with electronic and J-pop influences as “Harajuku-core”.
From indie to “Umami”
After starting out as a Maximum the Hormone cover band, the group self-released its first single in 2016 and later put out the mini album “Cherry Blossoms Are Blooming” in 2018 and the album “Girl’s Reform Manifest” in 2021. The signing to Epic Records Japan in 2023 coincided with the release of their second album “Reborn Superstar!”, which reached number 24 on Billboard Japan’s weekly album chart and brought the band international recognition, including festival appearances abroad. In 2024 they became the first Japanese band since X Japan, and the first all-female Japanese band, to perform on the main stage at Lollapalooza. Their most recent release before “Umami” was the EP “Hot Topic”, which came out on 28 January 2026. The new album “Umami” is expected in December.
