The Galician band Cruzeiro will take part in “Doom Shall Rise: A Tribute to Saint Vitus”, a compilation dedicated to one of the founding acts of American doom metal. Witching Buzz Records will release the album in digital format on 27 November 2026.
The compilation gathers six cover versions performed by artists from five countries. Cruzeiro represent Spain with their rendition of “Children of Doom”. The German band Epic Down handle “Born Too Late”, one of Saint Vitus’ best known songs, while the American duo Our Earth Is a Tomb take on “Clear Windowpane”. France’s Poste 942 perform “Hour Glass”, US vocalist Dee Calhoun appears with April on South on “When Emotion Dies”, and Italy’s Bantoriak close the record with “I Bleed Black”. The cover artwork was made by Captain Maoos.
Slow riffs against the eighties
The tribute looks back at a band that helped define American doom metal in the 1980s. While much of the heavy metal of that era pushed towards speed and instrumental complexity, Saint Vitus stayed close to the legacy of Black Sabbath, with repetitive riffs, dark atmospheres and a direct, unadorned delivery. Alongside Pentagram and Trouble, they laid the groundwork for later generations of traditional doom and sludge metal bands.
Beatriz Onyx behind the Mic
Cruzeiro formed in 2019 in A Coruña, Galicia, and play stoner and doom metal. Beatriz Onyx has been the band’s vocalist since 2020, singing on releases such as the 2021 self-titled album, the 2024 split with StryX and the 2025 full-length “Hic Sunt Dracones”. She completes a line-up of Raposa! on bass, Rust on drums and Gon B. on guitars.
“Doom Shall Rise: A Tribute to Saint Vitus” will be available digitally from 27 November 2026 through Witching Buzz Records.
